The Secret Life of Woolen Felts
Woolen felts absorb and release water vapor to maintain equilibrium with the water content of the surrounding air. The felts have a hydrophilic, water-absorbing interior, and a hydrophobic, water-repelling exterior. A thin protective membrane, like a wax covering, is bonded to the outside of each felt. Even chemicals like dry-cleaning fluids won't remove it. The membrane is waterproof, but microscopic pores allow water vapour to pass through, like smoke through a screen door.

Other Woolly Facts
1.When you move from a warm, dry atmosphere to a cold, damp one, wool releases heat slowly, buffering you from the temperature drop. (Cotton and synthetics cool immediately, and can make you feel chilled.)
2. Wool does not absorb oils or perspiration, so it won't host odour-producing bacteria, making it naturally odour resistant.
3. Long, fine fibres (particularly those in merino wool) are soft next to the skin.
4. Wool doesn't cling to skin, and won't pick up dirt particles as easily as other fabrics.
